Konnie Huq Tackles Rap

Some things aren’t meant to be taken seriously and Konnie Huq trying her hand at rapping isn’t one of them.  Konnie Huq’s name became a trending topic on Twitter soon after Under Pressure aired on ITV2 last night. So what was all the fuss about?

The 35 year old X Factor presenter met with the creme de la creme of the UK urban scene for one-to-one mentoring sessions to meet the challenge of performing a rap she’d written herself in front of 3000 rap fans live at London’s Indigo2.

The highlight for me was watching some of my favourite acts – Manga and J2K from Roll Deep, Baby Blue (who they kept calling Blue for some reason), Scorcher, and Akala as they fast tracked the ex Blue Peter presenter through the relevant stages to becoming a hardcore rapper.

Full of the typical cliches, Konnie Huq preceded her freestyles with “yo, yo, yo” and “hear me now” whilst glaring menacingly at the camera. Other than that glitch in the matrix she gave it an okay shot even taking Vis at 1Xtra by surprise with her bars.

With urban music now being mainstream Pop music I suppose we can expect a lot more of this sort of thing in the future. My initial thoughts whilst watching the show were, ‘is Simon Cowell behind this?’ What was your opinion of the show?
